What is Freediving?

Freediving, also known as Apnea, refers to the practice of holding your breath to descend underwater without the need for scuba tanks or other heavy equipment. All you need is a mask, snorkel, fins, and your swimsuit. It’s that simple! There are several different disciplines within freediving, including:

Try Freediving on Koh Tao

Freediving on Koh Tao is safe and fun, and most people are surprised with their results! Most freediving centers offer ‘Try Freediving’ experiences where you can take a half-day taster course without committing to an entire certification course. However, the best way to learn all the proper techniques and get some practice and feedback under the direct supervision of a professional instructor is just to dive in and get certified.

Learn Freediving on Koh Tao

Freediving schools and scuba diving centers offer courses through several internationally recognized agencies. So the course names may not always be the same, but the progression follows a very similar format:

- - Level 1 (the freediving equivalent of an entry-level scuba diving program).
  - Level 2 (the equivalent of an advanced level scuba course).
  - Level 3 – Master freediver.
  - Freediving Instructor

If you’ve already got the basic qualifications under your belt, it’s time to expand your knowledge and extend your depth. Sign up for your master or instructor course if you’re interested in teaching others.
