Mae Haad is the arrival point for all of our visitors. It is a popular place for accommodation due to its services, facilities, and easy access to other parts of the island.
Although you’ll probably want to explore further afield at some point, there is plenty to see and do in Mae Haad without needing to leave the village too often. To the north and south of the main pier, you’ll find clean and quiet beaches, and just off the shore at the very southern end of the bay is a small wreck of a night boat which you can easily explore with a mask and snorkel. There are plenty of options for cafes and restaurants, several dive centers, a butcher, fresh vegetable shops, two large supermarkets, and several stores selling clothing and souvenirs.

There is a selection of affordable hostels in Mae Haad backpackers and solo travelers. Clean, simple, and great value for money, they offer a convenient, central location for a few night’s stay. All hostels in Mae Haad are located within a 5-minute walk of the pier, meaning it’s not too far to carry your bags on arrival and take a refreshing shower after your journey.
There are some wonderful seaside hotels on either side of the pier. With fantastic views looking out over the ocean and towards Koh NangYuan in the distance, these are great places to relax and unwind on your Koh Tao holiday. Relax by the pool during the day, then head to the beach for sunset and onwards for a delicious evening meal.
If self-catering is more your style or you’re planning an extended stay on Koh Tao, there is a selection of apartment buildings that offer daily, weekly and monthly rates. A comfortable bed, bathroom, and a small kitchen are included in the price. This is an excellent choice if you are a digital nomad or looking to complete a long-term diving course like the Divemaster program.
