Visit the best beaches on Koh Tao. Swim in crystal clear waters, sink into white sands, soak up the sun, and relax surrounded by nature.
The waters surrounding Koh Tao lend themselves to all kinds of ocean adventures. Those who prefer to keep things laid back and explore at their own pace are well catered for. But, for the adrenaline junkies out there, there’s also a variety of high-velocity thrills to be found.
Heading out into the open ocean offers a unique vantage point to look back over the island and immerse yourself in the tropical ambiance while you top up your tan. As for what speed you choose…that’s up to you!
Paddleboards are available to rent from several beachfront locations on an hourly, half-day, and full-day basis. Stand-up paddleboarding, often abbreviated to SUP, is a great way to keep fit and tone your muscles while you soak up some sun. No experience is required, as most providers will give you a short introductory briefing to cover the basics before you head off from the shoreline. Sunset is a particularly popular time to head towards the horizon if you want to snap a few jealousy-inducing photos for your friends back home.

Kayaking is the ultimate way to explore the coastline if you want to stop off at hidden and secluded beaches along the way. Half-day and daily rentals allow you plenty of time out on the water, and most providers have both one-seater and two-seater models. A particular advantage of kayaking is you can pull into smaller bays that can’t be reached on foot or by boat. Plus, if you want to jump off at any point for a snorkel and check out what’s underwater, you can.
When the wind picks up from the west, Sairee beach becomes a hotspot for kite surfers. It’s difficult to plan your stay on Koh Tao around kite surfing, as the wind is usually only strong enough for a few days a month. But if you happen to be here when the conditions are right, you can head down to the beach and book yourself in for a private or group lesson. Taking Koh Tao weather seasons into consideration, you’re more likely to get to kitesurf between June and November.
Speedboat adventures range from half-day and day-long private charters to short watersports sessions in 20-30 minute increments. Companies that offer watersports have experienced captains, so the speed can be tailored to suit your needs regardless of whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned pro. Choose from tubing, water skis, and wakeboarding – or alternatively, just join your friends as the official photographer for the day as you speed around the island with the wind in your hair.
